About

Our Mission

To strengthen our local community by connecting families to our farm through weekly memberships that provide sustainably grown food, meaningful farm experiences, and a commitment to giving back to those in need.

Gorman Farms grows fresh, nutrient-rich, and exceptionally flavorful vegetables using sustainable practices on our farms in eastern Howard County and with our farming partner, One Straw Farm in Whitehall, Maryland. Our produce is available exclusively through our Community Supported Agriculture ( CSA) program, ensuring quality, freshness, and a direct connection between our farm and our members.

Each CSA membership is a weekly subscription:  members visit the farm throughout the growing season to pickup up their share of freshly harvested vegetables, connecting with the farm, the land, and the people who grow their food.

We steward our land with intention and care for fertilization, plant and soil health, and pest management. Through Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies, on-farm composting, and thoughtful crop rotations, we prioritize soil health, resilience, and long-term sustainability.  We use only naturally derived, OMRI-approved pest control products and never apply synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or herbicides.  Maintaining a chemical-free environment takes more hands-on work and tractor time, but it’s work we believe in.

To further protect and nourish our fields, we strategically plant cover crops to prevent erosion, enrich soil structures, and naturally maintain fertility – supporting healthy harvests today and for season to come.

We support our community through weekly, substantial donations of fresh, nutrient-dense produce to local schools, and food pantries, helping improve access to healthy food for families in need.  Learn more.

History

Dave and Lydia Liker started Gorman Farms in 2008 and opened the first season of production in 2009.  In 2015, they expanded by purchasing 80 acres just down the road in Highland, Maryland.  With both farms, they are able to implement long-term sustainable crop rotations that preserve the land through hay crops and cover cropping programs.

The farm’s journey began with just a few acres of crops and a 28-member CSA.  Almost two decades later, Gorman Farms proudly provides fresh, homegrown produce to over 600 local families through its CSA program.

One of our community favorites, Gorman Farms “Pick Your Own” Strawberries, has grown over the years into a beloved family tradition, bringing the community together for a fun and memorable experience.
